Date Reviewed: 8 February 2010 | This is a remarkable pair of films and an absolutely stunning blu-ray presentation from Criterion. You will learn a lot of stuff that you probably didn't even know that you did not know and be thoroughly entertained with pristine HD audio/visual in the process. I cannot recommend "Che" highly enough. It is a hands-down MUST OWN blu-ray set. (Read Full Review)

Date Reviewed: 20 January 2010 | Che threatens to become one of those cinematic monstrosities that critics laud but the average filmgoer never sits through. I'm not sure that Che is a great movie, but I can say that after four-and-a-half hours, I found myself affected greatly by the film, often recalling it in the days following my viewing. In a world filled with cookie-cutter sequels and franchise giants that's a small triumph in itself. Che also seems like a film with a built-in audience: if a four-plus hour biopic of Che Guevara by sometimes-experimental filmmaker Steven Soderbergh sounds like your kind of thing, then Che won't disappoint. For everyone else, I recommend a rental and a clear weekend to soak up Soderbergh's remarkable cultural and technical achievement with this Criterion Blu-ray release. (Read Full Review)

Date Reviewed: 18 January 2010 | A couple weeks into this new year and Criterion's dynamic presentation of Steven Soderbergh's difficult, brilliant epic 'Che' sets the bar ridiculously high. The movie is a masterpiece, and a must-see for anyone who missed its festival screenings or roadshow presentations (don't worry - they've been reproduced beautifully here) or has an interest in history or film. This package has an outstanding, voluminous collection of top-tier special features and flawless A/V is that is nothing short of stunning. This set goes beyond great. It feels downright revolutionary. Highly recommended. (Read Full Review)

Date Reviewed: 18 January 2010 | This four-hour-plus biographical epic on Cuban revolutionary Che Guevara is not perfect, but certainly worth viewing for its informative coverage of both the successful Cuban revolution and the unsuccessful Bolivian one, and most of all for the superb acting of director Benicio Del Toro as the guerrilla leader and revolutionary. Soderbergh and others worked on the film for nearly ten years. (Read Full Review)

Date Reviewed: 14 January 2010 | My first viewing of Che, over a year ago, left me feeling disappointed and somewhat bewildered (reflected in my harsher original review). It worked better for me on this second viewing, and I'm not sure why; either my expectations had been recalibrated, or the film is so specific and detailed that it takes additional viewings to take it all in. (Another factor: I originally both parts back-to-back, as Soderbergh said was his preference, where as this viewing separated the two parts by a full day--in my opinion, a much smarter way to take in the potentially repetitive material.) Whatever the reason, while I'm still not sure I can explain or justify all of Soderbergh's choices, I can say that Che is a fascinating, intelligent picture--and like, many of our finest (and most challenging) films, it is admirable for both its strengths and its flaws. Date Reviewed: 2 January 2010 | This is a wonderful package, and certainly an early contender for a Blu-ray release of the year. The supplemental features are outstanding. Jon Lee Anderson's commentary is one of the best ever to appear on a Criterion release. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. (Read Full Review)
