Reviewer: DoBlu.com | Movie | HD Video | HD Audio | Date Reviewed: 9 July 2009 | Knowing is a disaster movie that wants to become the meaning of life. That’s stupid. (Read Full Review)

Reviewer: DVD Verdict | Overall | Movie | HD Video | HD Audio | Date Reviewed: 7 July 2009 | Maybe it's his own fault. Perhaps Alex Proyas just doesn't "get" the Tinsel Town studio system. He can work with Will Smith and rack up big bucks on a film that's a mere shadow of its former literary self, then drift off and deliver a low budget rock-and-roll work out like Garage Days. Somewhere within the yin and yang of his career, between the dizzying highs and half-baked lows, sits Knowing. For this critic, it was a success, an edge of your seat experience that built to a moment of sheer visual wonder. It was both terrifying and transcendent. But as a realist, as someone who recognizes most viewers want their end of the world future shock spoon-fed to them, this complicated collection of omens and options just won't cut the mustard. Sure, stuff blows up, but there is too much brains behind the bedlam to make the experience totally satisfying. If you give it a chance, Knowing might just grow on you. But don't be surprised if the final reveal plays more problematic than prophetic. This is the film's greatest asset and its biggest liability. (Read Full Review)

Reviewer: The HD Room | Overall | Movie | HD Video | HD Audio | Date Reviewed: 1 July 2009 | Knowing shows signs of life every so often but ultimately is a storytelling mess of apocalyptic proportions. Yet it performed well theatrically much like Alex Proyas' other poorly reviewed film, I, Robot, which should translate into strong Blu-ray and DVD sales. Check Knowing out for Summit's strong audio and video presentation and then take heart in "knowing" you'll never have to sit through it again. (Read Full Review)

Reviewer: DVD Talk | Overall | Movie | HD Video | HD Audio | Date Reviewed: 30 June 2009 | Knowing is full of interesting ideas and clever notions, but the fundamental thinness of the screenplay and the stunning ineptitude of the Nicolas Cage performance keep it from going much of anywhere. Director Proyas can put together a slam-bang set piece with skill and deliver occasional jolts, but the film doesn't amount to much more than a weeknight rental--though the disc's reference-quality video and audio make it a tempting purchase. Reviewer: High-Def Digest | Overall | Movie | HD Video | HD Audio | Date Reviewed: 26 June 2009 | A wise man once said that, "Knowing is half the battle." In this case, spare yourself the fight. This 'Knowing' is not worth knowing. As a Boston resident, about the only fun I had with the film was laughing at its geographical inaccuracies (the picture was actually shot in Australia and looks nothing like Boston), and then watching a CGI recreation of my office building getting blown up. That was pretty much it. Excellent video and reference quality audio can only do so much to distract from the movie's awfulness. If you're still not convinced, do yourself a favor and stick to renting first before buying. You'll thank me later. (Read Full Review)

Reviewer: High Def Disc News | Movie | HD Video | HD Audio | Date Reviewed: 25 June 2009 | It’s a complete and utter shame that so many critics disliked this movie. According to RT, only 3/14 graded critics gave this a favorable review, which is a damn shame. Not only is “Knowing” an intelligent film that actually makes you think and wonder what our world we live in, but the movie is creepy, thrilling, emotional, features a fantastic score by Beltrami and has a few amazing well-shot sequences. This film comes HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for those with an open mind. Don’t listen to ANYTHING any of the negative reviews have said. Go in with an open mind and you’ll come out quite pleased, trust me. Reviewer: Blu-ray.com | Overall | Movie | HD Video | HD Audio | Date Reviewed: 24 June 2009 | An all-around wonderful experience, Alex Proyas' Knowing delivers a nearly perfect blend of popcorn-munching entertainment, terror, suspense, and drama. It's superbly paced, well-acted, fabulously directed, and delivers plenty of spine-tingling and thought-provoking moments. Summit Entertainment's Blu-ray release sparkles from a technical perspective. Offering a reference-quality soundtrack and a bold, clear, and sparkling transfer, Knowing makes for a visual and aural treat for the senses that stands toe-to-toe with the highest-quality discs currently on the market. Unfortunately, the disc is a bit thin when it comes to bonus materials, but the main ingredients -- quality of film and technical presentation -- make this one well worth owning. This gem of a Science Fiction/Horror thriller earns an enthusiastic recommendation. (Read Full Review)
