Date Reviewed: 11 January 2010 | 'District 9' had me curious with its trailer, but nothing could have prepared me for the trip that the film is, a fantastic blend of intelligence and action. The replay value is infinite, as I found it to grow better with each and every viewing. This Blu-ray sports fantastic video and audio, and a healthy pile of extras. Based on the strength of the film and the disc, this is a must own title if ever there was one. (Read Full Review)

Date Reviewed: 9 January 2010 | Despite its shortcomings, "District 9" is an engaging sci-fi romp that features solid CGI work and almost enough action to compensate for the lack of logic and character development. And yes, it looks dynamite in 1080p Blu-ray. (Read Full Review)

Date Reviewed: 3 January 2010 | While definitely a bit offbeat by mainstream standards, District 9 is nonetheless an "important" science fiction film, a rarity that gives us more than aliens, rayguns and thrills. There are plenty of those too, in addition to terrific picture and sound and ample futuristic bonuses. (Read Full Review)

Date Reviewed: 29 December 2009 | Sony's high-definition presentation goes above and beyond the call of duty by showcasing a near-perfect, accurate presentation of the way the film looks and sounds, along with coming out of the gate with a very dense array of special features that are missing only two things: the original short, and a trailer for the film itself. However, those would only be icing on top of the cake, as District 9 earns a spot in DVDTalk's Collector's Series both for the film's content and the disc's stellar presentation. (Read Full Review)

Date Reviewed: 29 December 2009 | District 9 was a blast of originality in theaters and is equally impressive, if not more so, viewing at home with high definition audio and video. The omission of Alive in Joburg is a shame, but there are plenty of other featurettes to soak in and the God of War III demo is a nice bonus that plays flawlessly. Aside from maybe Inglourious Basterds, no better recently released Blu-ray titles come to mind for a safer blind buy. (Read Full Review)

Date Reviewed: 21 December 2009 | “District 9” is undoubtedly one of the most unique, innovative Science Fiction (Sci-Fi) films I have seen in the past few decades. What is so crazy about that is that this didn’t have some huge insane budget, just a very talented crew of filmmakers, CG animators, motion capture actor(s) and so forth. If you missed this in it’s theatrical run or just want to witness it again (and again), pick up “District 9” tomorrow (December 22nd, 2009) on Blu-ray Disc from Sony. (Read Full Review)

Date Reviewed: 18 December 2009 | While Producer Peter Jackson's name has been attached with everything -- and its promotional materials in particular -- revolving around District 9, Writer/Director Neill Blomkamp's film stands solidly on its own two feet. It's not an example of a pet project with only a name behind it to get it noticed, but instead a one-of-a-kind, intricately structured, breathtaking, attention-grabbing roller coaster ride of most every emotion, including awe, excitement, and despair. Few films grab the attention so vigorously and never let go quite like District 9, and through its many layers -- allegory and hard-hitting action in particular -- the film gels wonderfully from beginning to end, every angle falling into place for one of the summer's most exceptional films and one of the decade's most unique Science Fiction experiences. Sony's Blu-ray release of this impressive film is up to the task. Boasting startlingly clear visuals, a faultless lossless soundtrack, and plenty of bonus materials, District 9 is yet another feather in Sony's cap, a perfect example of why the studio may very well be Blu-ray's best and most consistent. District 9 comes highly recommended. (Read Full Review)
